FIN 247 Unit 1

 U1-TECH EX 1

My first experience with a camera was a bit overwhelming. It took me some time to even find the most basic of features. Eventually, having messed around with it long enough, I got it to stay somewhat stable. Understanding the exposure triangle helped, it started to make sense after that. I’ve never been able to take great photos, I’m the person who gets one lucky photo every three years, so this was really pushing my comfort zone. I know these are not the greatest pictures by any means, but I personally feel good about them as I can see the improvement (however slow it may be). I tried taking photos in all the different settings I could find to understand how they differ from each other. I look forward to learning what I can from this class 🙂

U1-TECH EX 3

I am using Nikon D5000 for this photography class. I am fairly new to photography and I’ve never edited anything before, so, here’s my first sincere try. I’m open to any feedback you may have for me. I’d love to hear what you have to say.

Before and After

U1-TECH EX 4

I decided to use the same images for Tech Ex 4 to see if I could improve on them. I made edits on virtual copies as advised, and here’s how it turned out. I’m completely new to editing and photography, so please give me any feedback you may have for me.

I used two masks to make this image look warmer. I wanted the colours to pop more than the original image to show as if the plant is in a yellow lamp light.

Colour

This image did not need a lot of editing, so I just used the mask to enhance the smiley face. I used a single mask to edit this image while making use of the invert feature.

Texture

I did not edit any colours for this image, I used a mask to brighten the rocks on the top. I also added a little more texture to make the rocks look rougher and courser.

Space

I used a Mask to show the luminance of the light better and made some edits to make it look more vibrant. I had already removed a lot of noise, but I tried cleaning it up a little bit more to make the light look cozy and soothing.

Line

This image turned out to be the best out of all of them, or at least I think so. I used a linear mask in this edit to make the shadows look more real. I also edited the colours to make the sunlight look more natural.

Form

For this image, I used a linear gradient to edit the sky and the sunlight falling on the ship. I wanted it to have a more postcard sort of look as compared to my previous version, so I made the colours look more enhanced and edited instead of natural.
